#+title: Samuel Vaiter #+description: CNRS researcher, mathematics of machine learning #+date: 2026-10-22 #+status: finished #+layout: home I am a CNRS researcher at the [[https://math.univ-cotedazur.fr][Laboratoire J. A. Dieudonné]] in Nice, working on the mathematical foundations of machine learning. My current projects include bilevel optimization, automatic differentiation, and the theory of AI alignment. I have also worked on graph machine learning, optimal transport, proximal methods, and convex optimization for inverse problems. I teach at [[https://univ-cotedazur.fr][Université Côte d'Azur]] and [[https://www.polytechnique.edu][École Polytechnique]], and hold a chair at [[https://3ia.univ-cotedazur.eu][3IA Côte d'Azur]]. I received my PhD from Université Paris-Dauphine in 2014 under the supervision of [[https://www.gpeyre.com][Gabriel Peyré]], and was a postdoc at École Polytechnique with [[https://www.ceremade.dauphine.fr/~chambolle/][Antonin Chambolle]]. I joined CNRS as a junior researcher in 2015, first in Dijon and since 2021 in Nice, and was promoted senior researcher in 2025. Have a look at my [[/about/][CV]], my [[/publications/][publications]], my [[/talks/][talks]] and my [[/teaching/][teaching materials]]. Various other material (notes, tools, small projects) is listed on the [[/map/][map]] of the site.
